A shop needs more than a bill: where Retriever fits while IRD approval is pending

At closing time, a shopkeeper has more than one question. What sold? Which size is running low? Who still owes money? Did that order in the messages ever reach the counter? A tax bill answers one part of the day. The rest still needs a place to live.

A Nepali shopkeeper works at a laptop beside a khata ledger while a customer browses products on a phone.
The shop on the screen and the shop behind the counter belong together.

That is where Retriever earns its place: a storefront customers can visit, a catalog the counter can use, stock you can follow and a khata you can come back to. Those are useful jobs today, even while Retriever's IRD approval is pending.

A shop needs more than a bill

An online order arrives while someone is paying at the counter. The shirt they both want is the last medium in black. Later, a regular customer asks to put their purchase on khata. At night, you want to know what the day brought in without reading through every chat again.

Buying a billing tool alone does not necessarily join those jobs up. If you keep a separate website, a stock notebook, customer messages and a credit book, each sale leaves work in several places. Retriever brings the storefront and the work behind it into the same shop.

The useful part is what you can already do

Give customers a proper shop link. Choose a storefront design, put your own products or menu on it, and share a page with prices and a way to order. The customer can browse before asking whether you have the thing. See the templates.

Keep the catalog and stock together. Manage online orders and counter work around the same products. Where configured, track sizes, colours and serial units, and choose whether the storefront shows stock quantities. The quantity belongs to the shop; how much of it a customer sees is your choice.

Keep khata close to the customer. Record credit and follow what is owed without finding the right notebook or scrolling back to an old message. The point is being able to return to the account when the customer returns to the counter.

See the day after the rush. Sales, expenses and product reports help you review the shop's work and prepare records for your accountant. They give you a clearer starting point than a pile of slips. They do not file your tax returns.

Bookings, loyalty, staff access and payslips support other kinds of shop work according to the plan and setup. You do not have to need every feature. Start with the one that currently costs you time.

Why Retriever can be a better fit

For a shop juggling a website, order messages, stock sheets and a separate khata, Retriever can be a better fit because these jobs share one catalog and one working place. You spend less of the day moving the same information between tools.

That is a concrete reason to try it. Choose a product with a size and colour. Find it on the storefront. Follow an order into the desk. Check its stock and the day's figures. If those are the jobs your shop needs, the value is already there.

An IRD approval badge would matter for authorised electronic tax billing. It would not, by itself, make a storefront easier to browse or a khata easier to follow. Retriever's shop-management value deserves to be judged on those everyday jobs too.

Is IRD-approved billing software mandatory?

Not every shop is required to adopt electronic billing. When you issue electronic tax bills, IRD's Electronic Billing Procedure, 2074, sections 3 and 4 requires enlisted software and the necessary permission from the relevant tax office. That includes businesses choosing electronic billing voluntarily. PAN or VAT registration and software approval are different things.

Which businesses must use electronic billing, and whether they must connect bills to CBMS, depends on the applicable IRD notices, permission and procedure. A turnover figure alone is not a safe way to decide. Confirm the requirements for your business with your registered tax office or accountant before changing its billing arrangement.

Where Retriever stands today

As of 8 October 2026, Retriever has not received IRD software approval. Its IRD connection is Off/Test only; live submission is unavailable. A successful test or an invoice number is not approval. The IRD test-mode guide explains the current setup.

If your business needs authorised electronic tax billing, keep an IRD-enlisted billing system and the required business permission in place. Retriever can help with shop-management work alongside that arrangement; reconcile the records so a sale is not counted twice. Do not replace your required tax-billing system with Retriever while approval is pending.

Try it against a real day's work

The useful question is whether Retriever makes your shop easier to run. Can customers find your products? Can you follow an order? Can you see the stock and return to a customer's khata without starting over?

Try the demo, look at the current plans, then open your shop if those are the jobs you want in one place. Keep the billing arrangement your business requires, and judge Retriever on the everyday work it already helps you do.
