Pick a template, keep your colours

Swap the whole look of your shop in one tap, and put your own colours back if the new ones are not yours.

A template is the whole shape of your site: the hero at the top, how products are listed, how customers browse, right down to the buttons. Swapping one changes the look, never your products, orders or settings.

  1. Open Design and tap Template, colours & logo. Three designs chosen for your kind of shop are at the top, with the one you are wearing ticked.
  2. Press Browse designs for the rest of the set: market stalls, lookbooks, trade price lists, dark late-night shops, and more. Each card is a picture of that design on a real-looking shop, and the one you are on reads Wearing this.
  3. Press Try it on a card to see your own shop in that design, in the preview (on a phone it opens full screen). Nothing is saved while you try: the bar says Not saved, your customers still see your shop as it was, and you can try another. Then press Save this look to keep it, or Discard to go back. While you try, the list in Template, colours & logo still ticks the design your shop is wearing and says Trying this beside the other. Anything else you change while trying (your words, a photo, a list) waits with the design: Save this look, or Use this design on any card, keeps it, and Discard drops it too. A photo you picked before pressing Try it is yours either way.
  4. Tap one of the suggested templates to try it first. Save this look keeps it. InBrowse designs, Use this design applies a card directly.

If the preview still looks like the previous design, check whether the trial bar saysNot saved. After saving, compare with Open shop. Reopen Design if needed; your saved template and settings remain. Repeatedly choosing a design is not a substitute for saving the trial.

Keeping your own colours

A template arrives with its own colours, headings and corners, otherwise your shop would not look like the card you just tapped. If you had set your own, a bar appears saying the colours, type and corners now match the template, with a Keep my styling button: above the list in Template, colours & logo, or inside the card you just picked in Browse designs. Press it and you keep the new layout with your own colours, headings and corners back where they were, and the bar says so for a few seconds. The offer waits there until you use it or pick another template; while you are trying a design it steps aside, and Save this look offers it again. If it is the design you want back, not just your colours, the note at the foot of the screen (Now wearing and the design's name) has an Undo for a few seconds: it puts the design you had before back, colours and all.

The details, afterwards

The colours, the logo and the type are further down the same screen, Template, colours & logo:

  • Colours: each template ships three colourways measured against its own design, and you pick one. Each is drawn as the top of a page in those colours: the paper, a line of text and the button.
  • Custom colours: under the three colourways, press Custom colours to pick your own: Buttons and links, Background and Text, and if you like Cards and panels (leave Work it out for me ticked and Retriever picks one). Tap a colour to use your phone's colour picker, or type your brand's six-digit code, like #2a1d12. The words on buttons are picked for you, white or dark, so they always read. Buttons wear your colour exactly; small links and prices in it are drawn a shade darker (lighter on a dark background) so they read on the page and on cards, and the square with your first letter wears it too. Most templates use them. Signal and Domain have one fixed look, and Garage, Cake Shop, Aavya Special, Kanch, Shringar, Mandap, Chautari, Yantra, Kaath, Jhilmil and Aaina draw some of their text and panels in colours of their own, so on those the tab says so in place of the choice; pick one of their colourways instead. Colours you saved stay saved, and come back when you move to a template that uses them. The whole walk-through is in Use your own colours on your shop.
  • Colours that cannot be read are not saved. Text must stand out from the background and from the cards by at least 4.5 to 1, and buttons from the background by at least 3 to 1. If a pick falls short, the tab says by how much and offers a colour in the same shade that reads well (Use #…); until then your shop keeps its last readable colours. Back to the template's colours takes your own colours off, and picking a colourway does the same.
  • Logo: Add a logo and it replaces the coloured square with your shop's first letter, everywhere that mark appears.
  • Your shop's one line: the line that stands in for your headline until you write one, and sits in your footer and on your About page.
  • Fonts and corners: soft, sharp or round corners and a row of heading faces sit folded away, because your template has already chosen them. The strap above your shop name is The line above your shop name, at the foot of Big photo and headline.

The big photo lives with the big photo itself: tap Big photo and headline, and pick a photo or a flat colour. On photo, your shop borrows one of your own product photos (or an event poster) until you add one of your own. The slot always says where your big photo shows: at the top of your home page, and on your About page and beside your booking form when those have no photo of their own. It is also the picture a link to your shop carries when someone shares it on WhatsApp or Facebook, and, if you have not picked an album on Marketing, what the screen facing your customers plays between sales. On a design that turns through your products at the top, or has no big photo, it is still there, because those still use it.

Changes outside a trial preview save automatically. A design marked Not saved needsSave this look before customers see it. The preview should then show the saved template. Press Open shop (View on a phone) in the top bar to see the real thing in its own tab. How your products are laid out is a separate choice, see Showcase.
